I started CrossFit because I really wanted a change, but had no idea what that meant. I felt like I was in a rut with my workouts and wasn’t seeing any results. I heard great things about crossfit, but was very nervous to try something new. I knew that the only way I could achieve my personal fitness goals was to become part of a gym that will kick my butt… which WCSC continues to do. I really wanted to try something new, something that I’ve never done before, and something that empowered me. I figured that WCSC would be the best choice help me with my new venture, and it definitely was!

To be completely honest, i was terrified to start crossfit. I always thought that weightlifting and crossfit wasn’t something women should do, that cardio was the only answer that would get me into to shape. What I soon realized after starting at WCSC was that I was incredibly wrong. Before I knew it I was snatching, deadlifting, overhead squatting, etc. seeing results and feeling strong. I can attest that the workouts that we do not only show results physically, but encourages me mentally to fight any fear I have and give it my all every workout. I feel empowered during every class. The best part of crossfit is the ability to see yourself grow, become stronger, and become part of a community that supports your overall success.

What was your first “aha” moment?

When I PR’d my deadlift. It was amazing to see how far I’ve come. I would have never thought in a million years that I would be able to lift over 200lbs. Such a huge success for me. I couldn’t have done this without the help of the coaches though. Encouraging me to put more weight on (even though I complained) and believing in me that I could succeed!

What are you working on now?

I’m working on perfecting my form while adding more weight to my workouts. Before I would put less weight on thinking that it was better to finish the workouts as quick as I can. Now with my fitness goals in mind, I am focusing on doing the RX weight (if I can do it – still a work in progress) during the workouts. My goal is by next year’s crossfit games to do the RX version of the workouts rather than the fitness ones.

What’s your favorite WCSC memory?

I have way too many! This is going to sound very lame, but I feel like every day that I’m at the gym a memory is made. I love everyone that is part of WCSC and the time that I have there. Never in my life have I ever been part of a gym, surrounded by people that are inspired and encourage to work hard. Pretty amazing.
